MLK day

Was a public holiday here in the US - Martin Luther King Day. Couldn't really tell though as for us it seemed no different to any other day - sops were open and so on.  The hotel was definitely quieter and we figured that a lot of people that were here last night had come down for the long weekend.

For today's entertainment we were off to the San Diego Zoo.  It was a massive zoo - very lush and very hilly.  We walked around most of it and it always seemed we were walking uphill.  There is even a cable car that goes from one side of the park to the other.  We jumped on that early so we got a good look over the park - hard to see the exhibits from the air though as the vegetation was so dense.  After walking around for a few hours we hopped on board the zoo bus for a 35 minute drive around the zoo - filling in the gaps for us I guess.  The last exhibit we saw was the koala enclosure - they have the biggest colony of Koalas outside of Australia because they can from eucalyptus trees here to feed them.

We stopped in a subway for lunch cause they have a special on for January - all subs are $5!. I think we took a leaf out of the koalas book (they sleep up to 22 hours a day) because after lunch we all had a nap - Tony and I got nearly 2 hours in which was great, and much needed for Tony.
